Who Has Your Heart?

Who Has Your Heart?

When you think of him you smile, you get butterflies in your stomach, and feel as if he is all you can think about. You have the desire to do everything with him and let him in on each and every thought. He is your hope for tomorrow and promise for your future. What is his name?

Most of you likely just started daydreaming about your crush, and I totally get it, but over recent months God has been showing me that He wants my whole heart. He wants me to strive to put Him first. He wants my full attention, with no distractions.

So what is His name you ask?

Jesus Christ.

Who has your heart? Jesus, or the guy you pass in the hallway on campus?

I appreciate this song, First by Lauren Daigle, as it captures the feeling our hearts should have to strive to seek to put God above all else.

“I wanna know You, I wanna find You, In every season, In every moment” … “I wanna seek You first, I wanna keep You, I wanna keep You first more than anything I want, I want You first”

– Lauren Daigle, First

I am sure others can agree but when you have a crush on someone their name tends to stand out; you begin to see it more than usual, and take a special notice to it. Maybe you scroll through your story views looking for it or have it in your recent search feed. Well, I feel we should be just as, and even more, eager to notice the name of our God. We should be seeking to find His name in everything we do, because He is always present. Especially when we let Him in and ask for Him to move, He will turn bad around to good.

“There’s no other name,

There’s no other name like yours,

Jesus,

Like yours Jesus”

– Francesca Battistelli (Bethel Music), There’s No Other Name

I absolutely love how songs go on to describe the love of our God and our striving for more and more of Him. The love of God is unfailing, everlasting, all-consuming, never changing, always present, all-powerful, filling to every need, and the list goes on…it is endless!

“Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God”

– Cory Asbury, Reckless Love

Our Father’s love is indescribable, we cannot compare anything to it, there is nothing like it.

“It’s extravagant, it doesn’t make sense,

We’ll never comprehend, the way You love us,

It’s unthinkable, only heaven knows,

Just how far You’d go, to say You love us,

To say You love us, to say you love us”

– Steffany Gretzinger (Bethel Music), Extravagant

Over this last month, I have been noticing a repeating message – God is love. If you want someone to see God in you, simply love on them, show them the love of God. God wants husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church. Some of you may be wondering, “Well, how do I love others? What does that actually look like?” Lucky for us God shares that with us.

WHAT IS LOVE?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.”

– 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Now read it again. Yes, again. But read it slower and out loud. Do it with no regrets.

Did you learn something new the second time reading this verse?

Our God is indescribable, but He describes to us a love that we can aim after and seek to be like. It is not easy, but it is not impossible with Him. We cannot do it alone, we need Him to hold our hand and lead us ahead to achieve this Christ-centered love.

Love is more than a word, it is an action.

LOVE your friend, your sibling, your neighbor, your classmate, your mom, your dad, your grandparent, your cousin, your teacher, your enemies, your acquaintances, your peers, your boss, your co-worker, & every person you pass. If you are unsure what to do, just ask yourself…“What Would Jesus Do?”

My hope is that this message encouraged you today and God spoke to you through it, in one way or another. If it did, share this post with a friend or three, why not, you may bring a smile to someone’s face. Let’s be a generation that is fearless and empowers one another!

Growing up, my parents always reminded us that love was a doing word. We hated hearing it, especially when we were in the midst of a sibling rivalry, but I’m so grateful for their persistent teaching. Love requires action–this post couldn’t read more true!
